The Mazama Fire Department operates three vehicles: the tender 153, the brush truck 154, and the new pumper 159.
The tender is essentially a big water tank mounted to a truck chassis, and is used to shuttle water to an incident. Our holds 1,500 gallons maximum.
The brush truck is a light four-wheel-drive truck used for fighting brush fires off-highway. While much more maneuverable than a heavy fire engine, its small tank (250 gallons) and pump limit its effectiveness.
Last summer, 159 replaced our previous pumper, the 30-year-old 157. 159 carries 1,000 gallons of water and a 20-gallon foam cell on a state of the art Spartan Gladiator chassis.
Mazama is fortunate to have the support of its sister stations from the more populous downvalley towns of Winthrop (140 series) and Twisp (130 series).
