The remotest station of Okanogan County Rural Fire District 6, the Mazama Fire Department protects life and personal property on the highways and the valley floor through fire prevention, fire suppression, and basic life support services, working in conjunction with the other departments of the fire district and emergency medical and technical rescue service provider Aero Methow.
As an all-volunteer force, the Department welcomes potential recruits.
Okanogan County Fire District 6 comprises the fire departments of the upper half of the Methow Valley: Mazama, Winthrop, Twisp, and Carlton. Mazama lies at the furthest end of the valley, where the road ends in the winter ("Early Winters"). The Mazama department responds to calls between Rainy Pass and the Weeman Bridge, including the communities of Edelweiss and Lost River, and supports the rest of the District in calls further south.
Specifically, the Mazama fire hall lies directly to the south of the junction of Highway 20 and Lost River Road, near highway mile marker 179.8. (Map available.)
